| Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How will you get the wardrobe up my stairs?
Luckily many of the wardrobes come apart so delivery is surprisingly easy - in fact most of the time, the bigger the wardrobe, the easier the delivery. A triple wardrobe can break down in to four or five pieces but don't worry, we will re-assemble it for you in your bedroom - all you have to do is put your clothes in. If you have any doubts about access then please ask us for advice.
What is a bed base and why do I need one?
A bed base is basically a thin upholstered divan that sits on the side rails of your antique bed. This supports the mattress and gives your antique bed proper height. You might see some antique beds with wooden slats instead but it means that the mattress is too low and it spoils the overall look of the bed.
Some of the beds look far too big to go up my stairs - do they come apart?
Yes, they always come apart. The biggest part of the actual bed is the headboard, and then you have the footboard and two side rails. The upholstered bed base usually comes in two halves and the mattress has some flexibility. Please do speak to us if you have any concerns about access - there is usually a way around even the most difficult staircase.
I know what I'm looking for but I can't see anything suitable on your website - how often do you get new stock in?
We have a high turnover of stock with new pieces coming in every week - if you do have specific requirements then just send us an email and we can add your details to our Wanted List - no obligation at all, we just let you know when we have something which might suit.
Do you deliver anywhere in the UK?
Yes, we do - just let us know which item you like and your postcode and we can come back to you quickly with a quote. We either undertake deliveries in one of our own vehicles or we use specialist carriers who have experience in dealing with antique furniture.
I would like to purchase an item of your furniture but I have never bought from you before - can you reassure me?
Buying a piece of antique furniture is a big decision, especially when you have never dealt with a shop before. S W Antiques was established in 1978 by my father and, if you have a quick look at our Testimonials page, you will see a selection of comments our customers have made. We have supplied a real variety of customers in the past from people furnishing their own homes, to owners of country house hotels and B&Bs, and a host of well known names from the world of entertainment and the aristocracy. Personally, I am a third generation antique furniture specialist and a member of LAPADA, London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association - a notoriously difficult association to gain membership of. We have also appeared on the television, radio and had articles in nationwide glossy magazines.
